Stage spectacle in St. Johann / Alpendorf
A Day for the Breakaway Riders Between Lienz and St. Johann/Alpendorf!
Giro d’Italia, Tour of the Alps, Tour of Austria, Felix Gall! Cycling is right at home in East Tyrol. The big questions ahead of the third stage of the Tour of Austria from Lienz to St. Johann/Alpendorf in the Snow Space Salzburg over 188.7 kilometers are: How have the riders digested the first two stages? Which riders have already laid their ambitions for the general classification on the table? And will a group succeed in breaking away? After the start from Lienz’s picturesque main square, the peloton will complete two laps in the Lienz valley floor, including a sprint in front of the new train station. The day’s leading group will likely form during the long climb to the Felbertauern Tunnel. But from Mittersill via Wagrain and Bischofshofen, it’s still a long way to the finish in St. Johann/Alpendorf—now a fixture of the Tour, participating for the 16th time and blessed with a spectacular finish: “The Fleche Wallonne has its Mur de Huy, the Tour of Austria has its Alpendorf ramp. Puncheurs with the right timing are in demand. Like Ulissi or del Toro in previous years. Excitement is guaranteed, and we are very pleased to be providing the winner’s trophy again this year,” says Wolfgang Hettegger, CEO of Snow Space Salzburg.
