That was the Audi FIS Alpine Ski World Cup women’s night slalom 2020
More than 14.800 spectators: a top-class ski event
For the tenth time, the AUDI FIS Ski World Cup Ladies Night Slalom in Flachau in the Snow Space Salzburg took place on Tuesday, January 14, 2020. At the anniversary race, the Ski World Cup team once again demonstrated its skills and prepared a first-class race track on the Hermann Maier FIS World Cup race track. With the optimal weather conditions in the days leading up to the night event, the ladies' World Cup elite was offered an intransignet racing track that is unparalleled in the World Cup circus.
On the race day itself, 14,800 ski fans came to Flachau to celebrate the 10th anniversary of this night race classic. As in previous years, they turned the finish area in Snow Space Salzburg into a real madhouse and motivated the ski racers to do their best.
In the first run, last year's winners Petra VLHOVA with start number two presented a runtime that neither World Cup leader Mikaela SHIFFRIN, nor the two Austrian slalom specialists Katharina LIENSBERGER and Katharina TRUPPE could beat.
As in Zagreb, SHIFFRIN tried to put pressure on VLHOVA with an aggressive second run, but made too many mistakes and ultimately slipped back to third place just behind Anna SWENN LARSSON.
VLHOVA was able to fend off the surprising attack by the Swede Anna SWENN LARSSON, who had the best time in the second run. With a runtime of 1:53.65 and a lead of 10 hundredths over SWENN LARSSON, VLHOVA became Snow Space Salzburg Princess 2020.
The young Austrian Katharina LIENSBERGER could show her potencial again with the third best time in the first run, but missed the podium by 37 hundreths. The twenty-three-year-old Austrian Katharina Truppe also achieved a top result, improving from eighth to sixth position with a strong final run. The three young athletes Chiara MAIR (9th place), Katharina GALLHUBER (11th place) and Franziska GRITSCH (16th place) rounded off a great team performance by the Austrian technicians.
